1996 MK5 2.5TD 150L - 4EB engine code brakes

Hi All.
I am having an issue with the front brakes on the old Girl.
The Caliper pistons only seem to push the top of the pad and appears to go off the top edge too?????
Brakes have always been rubbish and no surprises when I saw wear on old discs.
New discs & pads, same issue. Got new calibers correct for 15" wheel, same on pad?
Any clues anyone
