Mass air flow sensor!? MK5.

Postby Tragustauro » Wed Sep 25, 2024 10:08 am

Hello.

Does anyone out there have knowledge about the (Maf) MAss airflow sensor on a MK5?

Engine is running. I disconnect the MAF and nothing happens. The engine still runs... No significant changes!?

While engine is running I reconnect the MAF. And nothing changes.

I see (on UTUBE) other vehicles with a faulty MAf.

Signs: Disconnecting the MAF causes the engine to stop.

Is this the same on a FORD?

My car/truck is confusing me about this. I can´t figure out if the truck is suppose to still be running by disconnecting the MAF or not??

All the best.

Thanx.

Now obviously you have a petrol DOHC

I can't help directly with the answer - but some vehicles will go on to a "base map" if the MAF sensor is not connected. My Land Rover does for example
Lucas Laser 2000 & IDS
95 M Prototype/Mule DRW 100PS Highcube
95 N Hallmark (white)
96 P 150 TD 100PS LWB Hi-Top

Gaffa tape is like the force, it has a light side, a dark side, and it holds the universe together

Hey Matt.

I see.
So on the surface of it, it might not be possible to figure out if it is working or not?

Perhaps I need to take it off and have it inspected properly?

I just left the truck.

And new knowledge again. Approx 45 min to 1 hour of idling.

Pressing the gas pedal and it dies.

Now it seems to be starting up right after dying. Which was a problem before replacing the cam and crank sensor.
I´m not sure if it has anything to do with this!?

It sounds perfect while idling and actually also driving. No issues.

Now I am thinking ,because of driving for approx 40-50 min and now idling for approx 40-55 min it dies....it has something to do with the amount of time it is running??

How is that working...

And yes it is a petrol I have.

Thanx.

No change in idle, or no change while under load?

Idling is kinda mechanic in afms, ( bypass of air through the afm governed by a screw)

Edit, sorry thought it was a previous model!!

....."No change in idle, or no change while under load?"...
No change at all...

As mentioned before. For some reason it seems to "tapp"out (stall) after approx 45-55 min. regardless of driving or idle. When reaching this minute mark and touching the pedal it also stalls out!????
What the hell??!!

No indication at all. Just stops.

It also seems to have been improve replacing the cam and crank shaft sensors. Because now I can restart it right after to cutout. Which I could´nt before.
I had to wait for much longer...

Ford T is weird.

Thanx.

Throttlebody : Deep clean.

Fuel injection system idle speed control valve: Deep clean.

Car running: 100%
