Driveline vibration?

Postby Bruce e » Fri Oct 04, 2024 9:57 pm

I have just bought a mk5 190 based motorhome, on the 900km drive home I noticed gearbox noise at 80 to 95km/h disappeared at 100 and with some throttle settings. Changed gearbox oil once I got home looks ok since it had probably done 200,000km. The previous owner had the drive shafts reconditioned and balanced but they only replaced one of the hanger bearings. As the noise is more harmonic than vibration could it be the shafts. I have a good gearbox I can put in but some other thoughts would be good. I have since done about 1000km with new oil and noise still there.

Could be diff. Mine sounded like noise came from gearbox/propshaft but it was worn out diff. Different throttle position made noise come and go.

Thanks did not think of the diff. Have not changed the oil yet as you know I will have to take the cover off and give it a clean out
