Diesel Pump Problem

Postby belperjem61 » Thu Oct 31, 2024 1:53 pm

Hi all, I have only a basic knowledge of what goes on under the bonnet so I need your help, we recently broke down and had to be recovered in our 1997 2.5 Diesel Transit. It just came to a stop and refused to restart, despite turning over. when we got back home and unloaded the van from the recovery vehicle, the AA guy said lets just try her now and of cause it started and ran for at least 10 minutes while we parked it up. Just before we broke down we topped up with a tenner's worth of fuel so my question is this, could it be water in the diesel or is there a relay for the fuel pump that could be sticking. If so where is it located, I've tried looking for the location online with no success so any help you can give me will be gratefully received.

Maybe the pump stop solenoid. Once cooled started working again.

Tenner to top up.
If you had a full tank any water would be at the top,or at least so diluted in the fuel it should really matter.

Filter last change?

As said, check the stop solinoid on the pump and the wiring going to it.

Have you got a red fashing light in the cab?

Water is heavier than diesel so it would be at the bottom and they don't mix so it'll never be diluted

Anything oil based floats on water..
It doesn't sink

Agitated enough and it'll try to mix
As in driving/braking/cornering.
Not at high speed obviously.

Taa daaaaaaaa

Thanks for all your help I'll take a look at the wiring as it looks crappy to the fuel pump stop.
