gearbox removed

Postby FDN850HU » Sun Apr 27, 2025 7:39 am

Hi, my mt75 gearbox will be soon removed so as to change shaft seal and clutch, just wanted to ask whether it was a good opportunity to do something around the gearbox. Is there anything i can do with it apart from cleaning? thanks a lot.

Never had the problem myself but the clutch arm is known to bend I have had the pin that it pivots on wear ,you said you have a seal to change I only changed seals if leaking inspect the spigot bearing and change if necessary in the past I’ve had to get the flywheel face skimmed if it’s had clutch judder and the odd ring gear .

Thanks mate gonna check clutch arm and pivot point. Spigot bearing will be changed we thought about that. Flywheel: gonna check it thanks! We ve got everything covered in oil underneath, so we do think it must be the main seal and its housing seal, we do that two for sure. Was thinking about the gearbox where the shifting rod attached to, there could be something to be done? Will see it thx again.

If I remember correctly there’s a 3 bolt plate for removing the camshaft had them leaking before and sometimes it’s not been a leak in the belhousing but coming from the rocker box gasket leaking into the bellhousing

It will be the rear main oil seal behind the flywheel, but i meant the top part of the gearbox where some kind of seal could be replaced? Where the gear shifter stick is attached to. I am not yet familiar with the gearbox but im gonna show if removed. Thx

some update, gearbox is cleaned and installed, although there is a rubber gaiter / dusc cap on the top of the gearbox (still reachable from the cabin), it is pretty worn and somewhat damaged. Is there a source for such or only 2nd hand? tia

I have a spare MT75 gearbox I salvaged. Turning by hand turns the spigot but I’m unable to move the gear selector to different gears, seems stuck in first. I suppose If it were in neutral the spigot wouldn’t turn. I wanted to make sure it was in good condition before selling it. Any way to test it ?

Ok, figured it out. Opened gear shift port, used a large screwdriver to slide into alignment the 1st/2nd selector. Apparently it had either popped out or it was improperly reassembled. Now I can select all gears and return to neutral (spigot no longer turns when manually turning shaft)
