Mk3 Door Lock Barrels

Postby MinorMatt » Thu May 01, 2025 11:11 am

Guys

Its been a very long time since I looked in the door of a mk3! A friend has just bought an almost unique mk3 but for various reasons the door locks all need changing.

From a very vague and distant memory there are no rivets or anything like that to drill out in the front - its just a case of unbolting to get too the barrel? (Or is it more accessible than the mk5s anyway and its just get the door off and pull the tag out?)

It's been a very long time since I did one too Matt , but I don't remember having to drill anything, but my memory at 62 isn't always correct!

My Mk3-Mk5 Transit Haynes Manual says it is a simple two or three step job pre-1995 that requires unbolting and that it is post-1995 which required the drilling out of any rivets.
Got a new old stock Chubb AVA lockset on the way in the post arriving at my local Argos Ebay Click and Collect so can get straight to the lock swapping fairly swiftly.
Here's hoping the Haynes Manual is correct on this one! :D

Can confirm that the Mk3's door lock barrels require no drilling of any rivets and are nice easy swaps.. just remember to wear appropriate cut-resistant gloves :D
