My son has bought himself a 1996 Mk5 LWB High-top 2.5TD transit camper, with the aim of upgrading it to live in (travel round NZ, work remotely etc.). I'm helping out as I'd like to see it move of my drive one day!
All in all, the van seems in great condition for it's nearly 30 years. While my son is thinking about mobile internet and how he is going to have a hot shower, I'm looking into the more basic tasks that need doing.
These include a full service, sourcing a wheel brace so he can lower the spare wheel, investigating an oily looking turbo, and most of all - the clutch.
The clutch pedal sits much higher than the brake pedal, and the clutch bite is right at the top of the travel - meaning that your left knee is nearly under your chin before the van starts to move.
I presume the high bite means that the clutch is worn and will need replacing soon, but can the pedal height be adjusted?
Looking at the pedal, it seems that slackening the nut on the end of the cable would allow the pedal to sit lower, but looking for some advice before I start adjusting anything.
All thoughts appreciated,
Thanks,
Mark,
