MK3 immobilazer problem! HELP :)

Postby GayaTransit1998 » Thu May 22, 2025 12:23 am

Hello everyone,
Nice to find this forum!

I have a 1998 Ford Transit MK3.
The chip in my key has died, and I cannot copy it. Now I’m looking for a DIY solution without involving a mechanic.

My options are:

Bypass the immobilizer by connecting the fuel pump and starter motor directly to the ignition/battery.

Try to reprogram the ECU to accept a new key.

Try to reprogram the ECU to disable the need for the immobilizer’s authorization signal.

I’m aware that messing with the ECU can be tricky, so I’d like to avoid that if possible. However, I don’t see many options besides bypassing, which I’d also prefer to avoid.

Any ideas? Is there information I’m missing that could help solve my issue better?

Thank you!

:D

1998 is a mk5

Which engine do you have?

Petrol
Diesel
Turbo Diesel?

If you have an ECU and your talking about the pump im assuming its a TD - and once programmed these cannot be changed and (with a few exceptions - not relevant to a 1998 model) immobiliser cannot be bypassed,

And chips in keys don't die (unless physically damaged) have you read the blink codes on the immobiliser LED to try and pin down the issue? The most common issue is a blink code 32 - which normally just needs the power hold relay (in the fuse box on the inner wing below the battery) replacing.

hey! Thank you for your answer.

For now I am quite sure that the chip is the one that is the problem. I tried to read the chip with a RFID reader and it did not recognize anything, and also any battery I placed inside was drained really fast.
there is no change in the led light of the immobilizer, it goes in one rythem and when I turn the ignition its after but still the same rythem.

The key chip in any key doesn't need a battery to function, and also there's no battery inside a Mk5 key fob. Are we talking about the same vehicle?

Even if the injection pump is unpluged a 2.5TD will crank (assuming immob is ok)
