Is there any possibility of a Mk3 automatically locking you

Postby HelenMondor » Thu May 29, 2025 8:22 am

Im a delivery driver and this is something that has always stressed me out, so I usually always leave my door slightly open when I’m constantly briefly hopping in and out while the cars running. It’d be nice to be able to confidently shut it.
I know the main auto locking feature they have is when you drive over 3 or 5 mph or whatever it is, but will these cars ever automatically lock themselves while sitting around and running?
I believe the most likely lock out scenario is if you accidentally lock the car while a door is open, and close the door with the keys still inside right?

There's no auto locking on a Mk3, and they're probably a little old for delivery work anyway, so I suspect that you're talking about a Mk7, Mk8 or a Custom?

The auto locking on my Mk7 doesn't operate until you reach 5 mph, so won't lock you out when stationary, but I have to say that when I did delivery work (many moons ago) I always had a spare key in my pocket. Just a simple lock key which doesn't need to be a chipped starter key, so long as the lock on your door works

It may be worth turning off autolocking (if you do have it), because if you need to access the load space during deliveries, you have to turn off the engine before the fob will work to open the rear doors
