Wheel hub replacement

Postby Steve111 » Wed Aug 20, 2025 9:35 am

Hi

I have a mk 5 transit luton (1999) with 15” double wheels, I need to replace the front wheel hub but it’s proving difficult to find them now, especially for a double wheel, I’ve found a mk 3 panel van in a scrap yard but it has the smaller 14” double wheels. Does anyone know if the actual hub is the same size as for the 15”? It looks the same but I don’t know if it’s the same diameter, if the wheel nuts will line up.

Any advice appreciated
Thanks

What damage is on your hub that it needs to be changed?

You should be able to just change the taper bearings and hub seal if the hub has no damage

Last year I had someone who claimed to be a mechanic change the break disks but they over tightened the bearings and they seized about a mile down the road, I had both bearings themselves replaced but one has been making a slight knocking since, it’s gotten a bit worse over the last couple weeks so I took it off and it looks like the stub axle is damaged. I was going to just change the whole thing but I can’t seem to find one new or second han.

He probably didn’t grease the bearings when fitting them if you have the reg number of the mk3 try a motor factor and see if the bearings are the same on both vans

a mk3 hub with 14" wheels is 100% not the same.

The stud pattern is different, offset is different and it takes smaller wheel bearings
