Problems with the indicators/horn/windshieldcleaning

Postby axxez » Sat Sep 27, 2025 10:29 am

Hello! I am having some trouble with the switches around the steering wheel for indicators, horn etc.
I dismanteled the left and right part. Left part is for indicators, horn, emergency and distant lights. This one can be unscrewed. The right one for the windshield cleaning and normal headlighting. This one is locked and needs to be drilled to open, but can be glewed togehter later on. Careful, they all have small springs and parts, so you'll have a nice puzzle everywhere when openening

So, I might be able to fix everything by cleaning BUT for the worst-case, I thought about replacing them. For MK3 Transits they are only available as repro for over 300€, for Mk4-5 Transits they cost like 30€ and are still in normal production. The mounting itself seems to be compatible, but the plugs arent. Does anyone have a part number for the plugs?

Also I measured some resistance for the indicators. I expected 0 ohms instead of open end. But I got something like 20 ohms instead of open end.. Might be on purpose, so I question if the indicators of Mk4-5 Transits have a different resistance there. But might also be because of ageing and it should be 0 by factory.

Any thoughts? Anyone done the conversion of those switches?
