Oil pump drive gear ,2.5d

Postby chain13 » Wed Mar 11, 2026 9:16 pm

Hi there , i,m doing a front cover on my 1997 2.5d because it cracked the plate at the top from inj pump being loose , now when i pulled it down i noticed the oil pump drive has no woodruff key .it spins freely with no tension at all , i know the bolt holds it but shouldnt it be a press fit to start with ,do i need to use a bearing retainer loctite or is the gear just worn , cheers for any help

The gear is held solely by the clamping force of the crank pulley bolt. There is no woodruff key, no bearing fit or anything along those lines.

Its extremely rare that is causes any problems.
