It’s a 2.5 di with the pencil injectors so about 1989 probably in or out of a mk 3 as you don’t say what you’re truck is
as for engine number can’t remember but Google says

stamped onto a flat machined pad on the side of the engine block near the sump flange, usually towards the front or adjacent to the bellhousing/transmission mating surface.

My thanks to you both for speedy replies ! I looked at many pictures and read your advices , could it be a YORK engine , I read about the early ether injectors , can’t see any glow plugs on my donk , I,ll look for the engine# and see what the V5 says .
The truck is 46 dodge 1/2 ton.

It’s not a York the later ones had 4 heater plugs no 1 was visible in front of and outside of the inlet manifold number 2 .3.& 4 inside the manifold the Di doesn’t have heater glow plug unless it’s a export model and they have one in the top of the manifold with a fuel feed to it like the earlier York had

I'm not sure that the standard Di was ever fitted in the LDV400, only the "Banana" or the "Turbo Di" was used for a couple of years in the late nineties, whilst they were still made in Birmingham.

If you have not had it long and don’t know the history get a timing belt kit on it and if it looks old a water pump and do the tappits and a oil and filter and fuel filter change

My plans exactly ! Remember getting told NOT to loosen the pulley nut , always used gates belts , now I know what engine I have I can order the gaskets , and check the tappets etc, of all manuals in my workshop I don’t have one to cover this engine , all part of the fun .
Cheers mate

Yes the pulley bolt is mega tight as it clamps the oil pump drive gear behind the oil seal to stop it spinning on the crankshaft had one come loose once and it lost drive to pump and it did the bearings if you haven’t got a timeing pin kit you can use drill bits to lock the flywheel/ camshaft/ injection pump drive if you do a search on here it’s explained how to change it and also the tappit adjustment sequence as you can’t use the 1 from 9 method

Based on the photo, it appears to be a Bosch high-pressure fuel pump.
A fuel lift pump is installed beneath the exhaust manifold.
The fuel injectors are of the "Ч-shaped" type, as their shape resembles the Cyrillic letter "Ч" (Che).
In English-speaking regions, these are known as "pencil" injectors.
This engine was likely manufactured between 1989 and 1991.
You need to know the size of the bolt head securing the pulley assembly to the front end of the crankshaft.
On models from roughly 1994 or earlier, the bolt head is 32 mm, whereas on later models, it is 18 mm.
Another visible difference compared to later models is that the oil pump is secured by three bolts rather than five; however, the mounting dimensions are identical, making the pumps interchangeable.
There is also a difference in the outer diameter of the rear crankshaft oil seal, though the mounting dimensions for the seal housing are the same for both old and new engines.
Pistons may also differ. Early-style pistons provide a compression ratio of 19.3:1 and feature low-positioned rings and valve relief cutouts in the piston crown.
Pistons from later naturally aspirated engines provide a compression ratio of 20.6:1 and feature high-positioned rings and a flat crown.
Most modern gaskets are compatible with the older engines.

What a great resource this forum is! I’m gathering all the service parts , but first off I’m building a lean too to keep the 80 year old truck dry through the fast approaching winter.
First purchase was a factory manual, £8 off dump bay.Full of good ideas! 8)
Looks like the stock 4 speed was available with a factory OVERDRIVE, any one had or know about these? Guess they are rare AF as none of my old transits had anything like that.as soon as I have enough posts I can get some photos up, we all love a picture or two!

The over drive box is a good upgrade if you can find one your more likely to find a mk 3 one you will need the gear lever with the switch and wiring the gearbox crossmember and prop shaft

If you don’t get a cross member you can modify yours by cutting the centre mounting out and welding it back in lower down as the O/D unit is deeper and wider

The prop shaft is different to yours so you need one LWB can be shortened to fit a SWB

Your gear lever will probably fit but you would have to fit a switch on the dash and wire it to the plug under the van near the gear lever hole in the floor
