1994 150D SWB - Can I easily change the diff ratio?

Postby bp_williams » Thu Nov 24, 2005 9:31 am

Hi fellas,
I just bought an old Transit and it only seems to want to cruise at 60mph. I can get 70 out of it, but it sounds like the lump wants to jump out and run away. Is there a cost-effective way to up the ratios to give a better motorway cruising speed?

Just to add what I was getting at. Is there an easy way to swap another diff either in part or full? Any particular model?

brendan no mate its a nightmere of a job unless you can find somebody that now,s about them , it uses the same type diff as the twin wheeler, you will probly have ratio 5.14 or 5.63 you need 4.63 this is as low as you can go!

The easyest way would be to swap to a 5 stud axle! :?
but then you would have different wheels on the front to the back - not illegal just awkward carring 2 spares!!

The tyres are sh@gged on the back anyway, so may try to get a higher profile as a noddy-solution and live with it. It's just a sh1tter, so perhaps if I end up doing any more motorway miles, I will have to upgrade!
 Cheers

I've got a 4:63 in my 150 SWB mate... it's a happy medium... perfectly nippy round town and I've managed 100mph before.

Happily cruises at 80 though.
