Mk4 Dashboard swap

Postby Northfalia » Sun Nov 09, 2008 8:46 pm

Hi, have a K reg mk 4, and have been given a dash from an R reg smiley, I realise that the heater box is different, and the speedo is electric not cable, is there anything else to worry about? Has anyone out there managed this?
Cheers
Is it that the dash i have been given is too new? did Ford make a cable drive speedo for any Mark 5 type dash clocks?
Have found the thread by the chap who has done this but no mention is made of speedo drives.
Thanks Again

taken from another thread :D
Bryan wrote:It's not possible to change the heater box to a mk5 one when changing the dash you have to make do with the mk3/4 one already in the van because the bulkhead is shaped completly different. I thought about cutting out the bulkhead from the mk5 and welding it into the mk4 but that was too much work.

I just need to get some universal air ducting and direct the air vents to the heater box because the old venting won't work with the mk5 dash.

Looks like someone has spent a lot of time on your van as the dashboard swap isn't as easy as it seems!

I also found fixings from mk3 to mk5 at the back of the dash were different. I squirted a big of expanding foam in the holes, worked very well. Also the A pillar trims didn't fit perfectly, so again, expanding foam and taped them in place, all nice and lined up now.
Heater matrix is not difficult, just use self tappers to re-fix it. I read in another post someone used the top mk3 holes to bolt it in, but later found it was too high, so just take your time getting it positioned. I took a pater template from the mk5.
