bleeding the fuel system

Postby MRspivvy » Sat Feb 04, 2006 10:02 pm

apologies if this has already been covered, but I want to change the fuel filter on my mk4 di, but I dont know how you are supposed to bleed it through after. do you crack the injectors loose and then crank it on the starter? every other diesel I have had had a plunger type of primer but the van doesnt have one

When ever I change the fuel filter all I do is fill the new one with diesel before I fit it and I have never needed to bleed it!

A lot depends on the type of filter, the type with the screw clamp can be a pig to seal if it's not an OEM filter you are fitting, but best advice is to fill it with fuel first then start the engine and let it idle for a bit to clear its throat so to speak, shouldn't need to start cracking injector pipes.
