HAS ANYONE THOUGHT ABOUT GETTING A GOVT GRANT TO CONVERT TO LPG

I APPLIED FOR A QUOTE VIA THE WEB , I WAS GLAD I WAS SAT DOWN WHEN THE PRICE CAME THROUGH , £1,800 INC VAT

I HAD ALREADY READ THAT THE OLDER THE VEHICLE IS THE MORE IT COSTS , WHY

BUT THE THE MILEAGE RETURN FOR GETTING THIS CONVERSION DONE IS MEANT TO BE A MASSIVE INCREASE BUT DO YOU STILL GET THE PERFORMANCE

ANY COMMENTS ON THIS SUBJECT WOULD BE GRATEFULLY ACCEPTED

i think theres aslight dip in performancewhen running on lpg, but how long before the government put the duty up when it becomes popular ?

THATS NOT TO BAD IF ITS THE LOSS OF PERF IS MARGINAL , AS I DONT RAG IT ABOUT , BUT ITS TRUE WHAT YOU SAY ABOUT THE GOVT PUTTING DUTY UP AS THE POPULARITY GROWS , THERE ARE LOADS OF PEOPLE ON LPG ROUND MY WAY , CARS AND VANS ,

i know on the very latest 2.3 lpg transits you can hardly notice the perf difference on lpg

maybe some do we have a branch in cambridge that does all the work on lpg systems but dont know if they do the conversions

I know of somebody out in the country, living beyond the gas mains who has LPG running his cooker. He was planning to convert his pickup and use the LPG he gets delivered. I reckon he will avoid the engine fuel duty by doing this, should it go up at the petrol stations. A bit like using red. is there any way the ministry could test it?

WOW , THUMBS UP TO YER MATE FRED , AT THIS MOMENT IN TIME , I DONT THINK THE GOVT COULD TEST WEITHER IT IS COMMERCIAL LPG OR LPG FOR DOMESTIC USE , I SUPPOSE THE ONLY REAL WAY OF MONITORING IT , IS BY KNOWING HOW MUCH IS USED TO RUN A COOKER AND POSSIBLY A BOILER FOR HEATING WATER , THEN IF YOUR FRIEND STARTS USING FOR THEIR CAR IT WOULD SHOW A SUDDEN INCREASE IN HOW MUCH THEY PURCHASE

I doubt that they would even bother to dig that deep, given they don't have huge amounts of man power. As LPG rises in popularity though.......
What you would have to look at is being stopped at a roadside check, as in for red diesel. If thre is no way of telling the different grades of LPG apart, seems like a loophole

YEH THATS RIGHT MATE AND WITH LPG ITS NOT AS IF THEY COULD JUST TAKE YOUR FUEL CAP OFF AND TAKE A SAMPLE

Donno how much cheaper, but it will be as the duty rises at the pumps, which is where the difference happens. I know there is a difference in duty between fuel oil and veg oil you buy for food use, which can be converted to diesel, but you should pay the duty to the Ministry.

poeple its not as simple as it sounds! yes the gas is the same but when you live in the sticks and use lpg your tanks etc have to be checked! they are very stricked, also the pumping eqiument is expensive, yes it can be done but its getting past the inspections!
lpg is ok and yes my focus that i had converted worked well you wouldnt know the difrence ,on the down side it takes time to fill and what i didnt like is standing in the rain or wind freezing cold pushin a button for what seemed like half an hour and does it give you hand aque! i wouldnt like to stand there filling a 100ltr tank thats for shure! also you must register the vehicle as a alternative fuel car on late vehicles you even get a £5 of your road tax WOW push the boat out! and the other thing you have got to do alot of miles to get your money out of the conversion ,i worked it out it would have took me 60,000 miles before the conversion would be starting to pay for itself! and mine was £1200 to convert, so you have to realy work out if its worth it! the best way is to get a vehicle allready converted!
