My beloved van has decided not to start this morning and i am racking my brains as to why. Last night on my way home from work she started holding back under acceleration. with the clutch depressed she revved fine but under load she struggled and coming up the hill to my house it wouldn't go over 15mph
It is a 1996/7 p reg 80. I do not now what ps it is. I do not know the exact mileage but i believe it to be in the region of 150k. This morning she was turning over lovely but not starting, there was no smoke from the exhaust either. i have charged my battery and have taken the bottom off the fuel filter to see if there was any water in the system, which there wasn't. i also checked the timing on the pump. the cam belt does seem a bit slack which i am going to change tomorrow. but other than that i don't know what to do. your advce is apprieciated. sorry its a bit long winded.

She is naturally apirated.

check the fuel shut off solenoid on the pump, if there was no smoke it doesnt look like any diesel is getting through

thanks for your help guys. Is there any way i can test the fuel stop or will i have to reset it . please excuse me for my poor technical knowledge.
I know its on the pump but where i don't know. it has a bosch marking on the side.

I don't know what i did right but i seem to have fixed it. i put it all back together this morning and conected the battery after a full nights charge. i also cranked the engine over on the starter to see if diesel was getting through to the injectors. at first it was a dribble then became stronger, it still took a while to start. I don't know wether i should have done it but i put my hand over the air intake and it started. still miffed to what the problem would be?

Sound like you have an air leak. Air in the diesel lines can be a disaster, but it's easily cured. Check the injectors are tight.

i have just removed injector 1 this morning. it was tight and did have abit of trouble trying to get it out. There was what looked like rust on the injector but that wiped off ok. the dust seal seems to have perished. could this be the problem? While i have it out can i get it tested.

I had a simliar problem with mine yesterday..Friday was running ok(well as good as it can with the knocking),Got in it saturday and whenever i put my foot down it sort of shuddered like it was missing or something..Then got in it today and its just flew to birmingham and back

Got me..As it does sometimes seem like its missing when i start off but only for a couple of seconds then all of a sudden it shoots off..then other times its good as gold..Only difference is mines a 2ltr DOHC engine

i had same symptoms once looked at my reciept turned out i put petrol in it

Thanks for the replies. I think i may have found something, hopefully this is the cause ,but you never know. after refitting the injector i bled some fuel through and decided to start it up. while idling i noticed diesel bubbles coming out of the leak off cap on cylinder one. all the other caps have two nipples with hosing connected but the first one on mine has a hole where the second nipple should be and that is where i found the diesel bubbles. Could this kind of air leak cause the problems i am having.

Morning, thanks for replying at this time of the morning. I've just got in from work and its been bugging me all night to ask someone. is it best to get a new cap or could i block the hole with some glue?
