Engine still running

Ok the problem has appeared to fix itself BUT if it comes back I want to know where to look.
Symptoms...starts fine, runs fine, turn off at the key...still runs but badly and gradually stops...key turning seemed stiff, this happened about 6-7 times.
Checked all connections as the fuel electrical connection (Pump) is connected to the loom that goes to the gearbox speed sender, as I have recently changed the clutch I thought this 'might' be the problem...all secure.
Now the key seemed easier to turn and it switched off as I expected it to...I have now WD-40'd the switch assuming gunk etc inside and obviously any electrical connection within the switch will be cleaned up.
So if the problem comes back where should I be looking to fix this?

Bosch fuel pump on a 2.5 NA DI 98 build year.

I think it's more likey to be a problem with the pump rather than the ignition if it carrys on running but running rough.

Probably right but a sticky switch is a place to look at as well afterall the fords ignition barrels are far from precise. I did find a some links about vacum pipes being faulty/leaking but I don't have any just an in and out for fuel and no leaks, the only return extra connection via a T-piece to the injectors themslves again is dry as a bone, so the eletrical connection seemed favourite. I was more hoping for "oh it's the google pin...they often play up so undo and replace, cost about a tenner"

If you switch on a few electrical things ie heater or radio then switch the engine off, do they switch off immediatly or keep going like the engine?. Or take the steering cowling off, get a test light and find the stop solenoid wire (should be live). Turn off the ignition and see if you light goes off in time with turning the key.

Ok well when it does it next time I will look to that solution...where is the stop solenoid if it does prove to be that at fault?

Try pulling the connector plug of the Stop Solenoid on the Injector Pump when its running.
My engine dies in 2 seconds when I do that.
If it does, then your problem lies between the solenoid and your ignition.
