Manual/Auto ??

Postby MWOOLY10 » Mon Apr 17, 2006 9:21 am

Can any one tell me would an engine which is an Auto fit onto a Manual box??

On a 2ltr DOHC engine..Seen a nice little car for a donor and alas its a bloody auto, just my luck..

If it'll fit ok then i may go and buy the car and donor it..Then i have time then to hopefully try and make a good engine out of the 2 knackered ones that i'll have..

Any ideas anyone........ :D

i guess this could be done relativly easly as the auto box in the granada (and i think sierra) was the same as the transit so all the bits should be available!!

the 4x4 dohc has all the 4x4 gear attached to the sump so you would need a 2wd sump - apart fro that i cant see a problem :D

Thats ok then as ive seen a couple of decent cars for donors..Expect one is 4x4 and the other an auto..Just wanted to make sure they'd fit my manual Transit box

Cheers for that soon as i can get the engine fix then i can get it resprayed a different colour than white :)

Cheers mate :D

what exactly are you doing what box do you have now :?: auto :?: dohc maunals are a different box on the transit to the sierra infact there unique to dohc transits. :!:

At the moment i have a 2ltr DOHC transit..and i need to donor an engine..Seen a couple that look ok..but one is a 4x4 sierra and one is a auto sierra

I think ive found where the noise is coming from on my current engine but with me knot knowing how many miles its done due to it being clocked and it smokes slightly as i think my piston rings have gone so i may as well put another engine in that i know what the milage is

right no probs then any engine will do - just fit the flywheel from yours if its an auto engine or the sump if its a 4x4 - also the injection is different from the transit to the sierra so your prolly best to swap yours onto the new engine too!!! :D

Right so i just take the injection off the donor engine which ever one it is and use the transit one..

And then the flywheel for an auto and sump for a 4x4..Oh right i wasnt expecting such a simple answer i though id of got a more complicated one than that

I think it would be certainly easier than trying to fix my current engine then..

Cheers Luke :D

basically yep!! :D i cant be 100% sure cos its a job ive never done - ive swapped a 4x4 dohc sierra to 2wd and that was dead easy so i cant see you having any problems, there may be little differences like - the camshaft etc but i doubt very much it would cause any problems - also i think the sierras are 120bhp and the trasnits are 110bhp - something like thats but i'd guess by swapping the injection over yo will lower the spec of the sierra engine, but if you have a look at the sierra engine aside yours you will see what i mean all the pipes are in different places ect. would certainly make it an easyer job keeping the tranny injection. :D
i once thought the sierrra injection would not fit in the transit - i thought it would foul the servo but ive seen a van with it in so it will go in.

Yeah true..Rather than paying the £600/800 for another engine .I can buy the full car for about £200 and my garage will fit it for £150...Unless i get really adventurous and try it myself
