just taken the ply lining out of the back of the van and guess what the dreaded rust monster!!!

so next bank holiday will be fun going to hire a mig welder for the week end and start welding

any good ideas will be well taken

Have you thought of putting the ply back in. No really its not as bad as it looks , its just a case of welding each bit with patches, unless there is such a thing as ready made floor sections.

guys it depends on how fussy you are and if you want to keep the van for many years!
another good way to deal with this is give it 2 or 3 coats of fibreglass matting and then paint it ,and also use the resin over other parts that will rust in the future! ,its not to much of a bodge as fibreglass is very strong and also the resin kills the rust as it stops the air! think whatfibreglass is used for !

I suppose you could fibreglass it, but I wasnt aware that the resin killed rust, and its quite alarge area to cover, I would eithjer patch it or patch it and reboard the floor so it can be taken out by undoing a couple of screws. The guy that did my mot at a council depot never touched the back doors never mind checking the floor.

It's weird, my van was never ply lined in the back so never had screws in the floor but it's still rusted through. My first thought when I saw it was that too many people had been throwing up in the back and that had taken the paint off! But in reality I think it's rusted through from underneath. I think I'll get in there with some wax oil before it's too late.
