New MK5 - couple of probs?

Postby johny transit » Fri Oct 30, 2009 12:00 pm

So I am settling into my new mark 5, very nice to have power steering and I have noticed ford have improved the ride quality over the old mk 3, but I have also noticed a couple of things that might need looking into...
There is a faint but regular, dull knocking noise which varies according to road speed, and can be felt through the brake pedal - I suspect a bearing?
I find that idling, the cab is filled with a dull vibration like you get with a deisel, or on a bus...hopefully not too serious, wondering about engine mounts? Or just the fact that there is a big piece of mdf acting as a bulkhead/drumming resonator? Or maybe the dohc is just like that? I drove a few of these when looking but can't remember whether they were the same.
Otherwise, all good! :)

Well to reply to my own question, incase anyone is interested - the vibrating in the cab has been reduced to next to nothing since I took out the full height mdf bulkhead that was screwed tightly in place. It was, as I had suspected, causing any vibration to be amplified massively! New 1/2 height bulkhead fixed in less ridgidly, on a couple of brackets and it's all fine now.

Hi

I've got the full hight metal bulk head in mine and that used to make some horrid noises
when i brought it.
so i took the bulkhead down and put a nice bead of silicone between the bulhead and side of the van which totaly stoped the noises.

nice looking van by the way 8)
