ford transit c3 auto box testing

alrite lads hopin u can help me some body told me on this how to check my autobox but i cant find the post anyway there goes he told me to but the van in drive foot on the brake and rev it up i did this the revs dont go above 1000rpm but i cant remeber if he told me this was good or bad can anybody just conferm how totest again for me the proplem i have it doesnt seem to acc until it changes to second it goes well apart from this i just want to no if there is a proplem cus im knackerd with out me van thanks hope u can help

forgot to say i was offered a worg warner t35 box with torque convertor i no the box is different but does anybody no if the convertor is the same is was fitted to an essex engine(ford)capri

don't know about the torque converter - but I have got somewhere a genuine dealer overhaul manual (I think it's for the C3)- if you want it drop me a line

LOOK AT THE ACELERATER PUMP ON THE SIDE OF THE BOX ITS ON THE DRIVERS SIDE . SOME TIMES IT GETS CLOGED UP SO TAKE THE PIPE OFF AND LOOK TO SEE AND SMEL FOR PETROL . THE PIPE COMES DOWN FROM THE THE MANIFOLD VACUM . IT DOSE SOMETIMES GETBLOCKED.IF THAT IS OK THEN TAKE THE 10MM BOLT OUT OF THE PUMP AND TAKE THE PUMP OFF THE BOX.YOU WILL SEE A LONG PIN WHICH SHOULD MOVE IN AND OUT IF THIS DOSENT THEN CLEAN IT AND RE PLACE

Hi spanners, It was me just got in from work The test was for the torque converter, to see if this was your trouble having a poor "start from rest"
I take it you did the test (I thought you took it down the road to the auto specialist) and yes you're right if the revs don't go over 1000rpm, your torque converter needs replacing NOT the transmission

hi andy g yes i was going to take in to auto gearbox place but he wanted £50 to check to over i would rather have the £50 to spent to fix it yes i did the test that you told me didnt go over 1000rpm so is it the convertor then just one thing if the box +convertor were ok what should it do when i do this test im going to start to look for one now u see do u no if an essex v6 to b/w t35 box is the same thanks

What it should do is rev right up through the range, if it only sits at 1000rpm then its is the tourque converter.

Cant help on the B/W box though

yes it only revs to 1000rpm then im in drive with the brakes on and reving it thanks lads

Having owned a few MK2 Granada's with the C3 box I can tell you the T35 is a much better option. It has an uprated torque converter for a start! The C3 is ok, but can generally start giving you problems around the 100,000 miles mark if it's had a hard life up to there.

I believe the T35 will bolt straight on to a 2.8 Cologne engine/Essex V6 but as for pinto's DOHC's or whatever I'm afraid I don't know? Must be an adaptor plate available I would think

so would you thiink that the t35 torque convert would fit to the pinto flywheel and if so would the bbe ok to use thanks

The Cologne and the Essex have different stud patterns so maybe it wont fit both.

not without a different bellhousing essex cologne and pinto are all different stud patterns!!!
