Diesel MT75 to pinto?

Hi.

A mate has just totally trashed the 'box in his pinto F reg Mk3. It's not the original engine and box so I don't actually know what year it really is.

The local scrapyard has a few Mk3s but they're all diesel with MT75 boxes.

Unlike cars there's obviously enough room but do they fit the engine?

If you are saying that the van is a petrol without an MT75 but you can only find MT75 boxes then YES it will fit, but you need an adapter plate for the pinto engine to MT75 box, you may also need the propshaft but i cant swear to that one.

What box has it got in now?

If its a type nine then one from a sierra would fit without too much hassle.

If you use a type 9 box from a sierra then the gearstick will be in the wrong place.

I worked that out, about an hour after deciding that the P100 box they had had got near enough ratios to be OK.

Why not just put an ad in the 'Wanted' section for either a box similar to the original or an adapter plate for a pinto to MT75 ??

Thanks for the link. I had already seen it. It's a ***** long way from Derbyshire to Essex!

My mate had tried a car gearbox on a previous tipper. It, like this one, had 3 seats and apparently it was fine as long as he didn't want to use 2nd or 4th.

There is of course the sierra MT75 box - as fitted to the granada and sierra 2.0 dohc engines.
It fits straight onto the pinto with no adapter plate required although you will have to change the pressure bearing to a longer one. It has an adaption for cars bringing the gear change further back - but this can be done away with leaving it roughly in the correct place for a transit.

still about 6" too far back tho - i once wondered about this if you could change the linkage round so it pointed forward instead of back it would be about right but ofcourse that wouldnt be a simple thing to do

I fitted one to a pinto in a kit car and had to extend the "extension" by about a further 3". I was simple enough to do - but if extending forward it would be harder to mount the extension to the bellhousing.

the dohc transits use the mt75 with a dohc/pinto stud bellhousing no adapterplate and ofcourse the stickis in the right place too

I've got a pinto-fit MT75 in my garage (bought for my kit car) but apart from the gear lever, the ratios are wrong for a Transit. Well, it's supposed to fit a pinto, I'd better check sometime...

As the tipper in question regularly carries a full 1.1/2 tonnes of tarmac, and Derbyshire is VERY hilly, low first, second and third are pretty important.
