Headlamp problem NOW SORTED

Postby MattBlackMinibus » Thu Dec 03, 2009 1:58 pm

Headlamp main and high stopped working.
Checked fuses, all OK. Bought new bulb.
Go to replace and find plastic connector block melted
(the one which goes on the bulb).
Removed block from bike loom.
Fitted block and bulb.
Sorted.

...1 week later...

Main and high AND sidelight stops working.
Fuses OK.
Bulb OK.

Other side is fine.

... !! HELP !! ...

Assuming a mk. 5....................
As the van has "Dim Dip" the Right hand headlamp gets its earth via relay X11 (K 78). Check this relay, second from left in top row, and check that its socket is not burnt. This could be why you are losing Dip and Main beams but I thought sidelight had a seperate earth. If you want to disable "Dim Dip" then leave this relay out and connect the Brown/Blue wire at the right hand headlamp to earth. (Don't Know if Dim Dip is checked at M.O.T.)

Thanks Timbo, but it's all a mystery to me!
I've looked at the relays, and they seem OK. I could be wrong though.
I'm lost with electrics, so need someone who knows what they're doing to fix it.

PSV found a bad earth and an intermittent connection at the bulb.
Simple as that!
I really need to learn how to use a multi-meter
Thanks again mate :D
