MK3 just failed the MOT

Failed on steering rack gaitors, 1 lower balljoint, rear lights went mad with brake and beam, rear lower shock bush worn, both sides at the back had rusty spring mounts.

Should get it sorted this week, bloke reckoned it was good apart from the two bits of welding needed, said the rack gaitors were trashed though and should never of passed 2K ago.

Anyone done a shock bush before? Its probably easier to find another shock i thought.

not to bad my 99 vreg swb failed on brakes, welding, lights, etc, etc cost 200 quid for welding 500 quid to replace all the brakes drums shoes discs pads etc etc
then when passed ministery stopped the wife driving it gave her a prohibition order for prop center bearing another 60 quid went to get it fitted and told universal joint was knacked so another 100 quid yours aint really that bad and prices on new parts aint really that expensive so chin up could have been worse still wouldnt get rid of it

Not too bad a job to do the shocker bushes you can press them in using a large bench vice and some sockets. Just check that you haven't got oil leaking out of either shocker. If they are nice and dry they should still have life in them.

I did mine (some years ago) and asked the Ford spares guy if he sold many shockers and he said no but lots of bushes.

Fair play, will get to it soon as its not needed I dont need to hurry, and the insurance runs out tomorrow morning anyway!

Hopefully my missus dad's got some new old stock stuff going for free at work and it should cost me next to nowt for parts.
