timing belt -fuel pump relation

Postby koondaholaa » Sun Dec 20, 2009 9:53 pm

is it possible that faulty fuel pump will break the timing belt while you drive ?

i have gotten new ful pump from an 1997 banana engine for my 1993 banana engine
not shure though if the numbers match -the van is 300 km way from here

is there step by step to set the timing after a switch the fuel pump

any suggestion as to what tp look for ??
thanks Kamil

You should fit a new timing belt seeing as you will need to remove the old one. I would not recommend re-using the original one :!:

Replacing the belt has been covered plenty of times on here, just do a search for a step by step guide...

yes you know the timing belt snapped for the second time since the (what i suspect) fuel pump started malfunctioning
its cutting of at high speed up hill only from 4 gear up

i have timming belt but wanted to know more about the fuel pump
is it possible the timing belt snapped twice because of other issue

thanks kamil

tensioners all ok? spinning freely?
belt to tight?

they could cause the belt to snap!

Pulley teeth pitch/size changed at some point. It's pretty obvious as the belts don't fit properly, but could be forced to fit if you don't notice.

'97 pump will fit a '93 engine... BUT '97 is a changeover year for the injection system. You may or may not have the right injectors to go with it!
