Dashboard lights stopped working

Any ideas on why my dashboard lights, side lights, dipped beams, plate lights etc have stopped working yet I have main beam lights.
I have checked the fuses under the steering wheel they're all OK.
Can I check for something else before taking her for a trip to the garage?

i asume you have lost the rear lights aswell if so check the connections at the rear of the light switch

Hi.
It could also be fuse FC (60 amp). This and a couple of other big fuses are hidden in a plastic cover between the battery and the off-side inner wing.
Easier to take battery out to get at them.....safer too. (Always assuming it's a smiley Mk 5.)

Its a Mk5 diesel, thought it might be one of the the main fuses.

The handbook recommends taking it to a dealer.

Can I replace the fuse myself if I remove the battery?

Its probably the switch, or has been said the multiplug coming slack

does anyone have a wiring diagram of the wiper/light stalk so I can check if the switch has gone?

has the code b517x on it from a mk5 transit

Mine did exactly this and that was the connector, cable tied the loom to the colunm and wedged a nial behind the switch fixed it for a while but put some solder on the switch spade in the end

Mine did this as well. Check the connectors first - see if they are loose, need cleaning etc. If not, its the switch (got a decent secondhand one for £10 from a scrapper).

Thanks guys, after a wasted evening struggling in the dark and wasted morning rushing around the scrappys (got new stick but still no lights), FORD dealer (mechanic away till 6th Jan) and AutoElectrician (no chance before christmas) I cleaned up the connector again, took a closer look at the terminals and saw one of the slots needed bodging together so I've got my lights back now.

Still got a dodgy connection on my headlamp though
