release bearing

Postby wideloadescort » Mon Dec 28, 2009 1:10 pm

after using my van on Wednesday the release bearing is very noisy I have had a look today and the bearing is not a tight fit to the arm there is about 5mm of movement on the arm before the release bearing follows it. If i undo the clutch cable and pull the arm all the way back the bearing is silent. it seems that the plastic clips that hold the bearing to the arm are worn but the full clutch has ony done about 15000 miles. Should the bearing be a tighter fit onto the arm and move away from the fingers straight away? if so would a genuine ford one have a better clip system?

a freind of mine bought a non ford clutch for his lwb r reg and it lasted about 1000 miles release bearing went noisy so he changed it for a genuine part done 20000 mile now not a problem i always fit genuine parts to my van they might be a bit dearer but is it worth doing a job twice
