If its the one with the wax heating element that pushes cold start to "off" position,
Its ignition fed thru a temperature switch in the block, wiring it to a fused ignition feed would work tho,as the cold start takes around 4/5 minutes to move to fully off position even if temp switch is by-passed.

i think its the wax one its all part of the pump its black about 2 maybe 3 inches long like a sausage brass nut at one end and a 10mm nut at the other end for power cable i take it the 10 mm nut is for a positive feed . does it need a purmernet power feed or do you send power when you want to stop cold start THANK YOU :D

Yep,thats the one.
Uses 12V feed to knock the cold start off, connected to 10mm nut at end.

Original wiring uses a 12V (when ignition turned on) feed which goes to a temperature switch in the block that is open circuit till engine start to warm,
switch then makes circuit feeding the wax solenoid & releasing the tension on the cold start mechanism.

My van has this setup & i`ve by-passed temp switch so that solenoid starts to warm as soon as ignition is on as it takes a good few minutes for it to full release, long enough in my opinion for van to run ok.

More info on system

The cold start on a 97 is probably the internal one, you cant see it cos its inside the pump

It might be that you need a new thermostat so that your engine warms up quicker, or do what Frag says and by pass the coldstart stat

Depends which pump (lucas/bosch) and which type of coldstart set up,lucas pumps use a waxstat cable type into back of thermostat housing.
Either way 25 mins is way too long !

No,only earlier ones (pre 97 ish i think :? ) had external coldstarts.
After that its supposed to be internal,in pump.
I prefer early style (they actually work  )
