Smoke questions

Postby finnon » Wed Jan 13, 2010 9:51 pm

a few months back i posted about an upcoming mot. well the van passed (suprisingly)

viewtopic.php?f=4&t=52098

just recently im fairly sure the smoke has got a bit more noticeable. even when warm theres a vissible amount of smoke on idle coming out the exhaust. give the engine a rev and theres quite a cloud.

also i cant for exmple leave the engine running if i have to say tie something onto the roof rack as the smoke makes everyone feel sick if they breathe it in. this is all whilst the vans outdoors in an open sort of environment.

ive not had much of a chance to take a look at what was sugested in the thread i linked up like holding the throttle butterfly open with a tie wrap etc.

would it be worth getting a bottle of the forte (sp) diesel injector cleaner? or does this sound like a deeper seated problem than just dirty injectoers?

it seems now that the problem i described where it starts to chug and smoke when the engines cold is starting to happen a little more when its warmed up a little too.

any ideas ontop of the ones in the previous thread would be great. even if just a recomendation to use forte or another type of product.

okies, i do actually have a new oil filter and some new oil so first ill sort that out. new air filter at last service. so i guess thats probably ok. it dos look relatively clean.

set valves up. are the clearences etc listed in the haynes manual?

its a non banana engine. does the tie wrap and egr blank off still apply? where abouts would i start the egr blank off procedure? is there a guide on this site?

thanks

its like a grey type colour at idle and general pottering about. it turns black when under any sort of load though. (apparently anyway. its hard to tell whilst driving just what ive been told)
