Seperate BT heater

Postby AndyJ2506 » Fri Jan 15, 2010 12:15 pm

Hi guys
My van came with one of the little cab heaters found on the BT vans so could somebody please tell me how these work as my van takes a good 15 miles to warm up and its not fun. i can get it and the fan in the cab to run but it never gets hot. Also my temp gauge doesn't work so would this contribute to it not warming up very quickly
Cheers in advance
Andy

Sorry I don't know about BT heaters, but I can tell yopu, the temperature gauge will not affect the speed of warming up. However, are you sure the temp gauge i not working, or is it that the thermostat is stuck open or missing. Either of these reasons will slow the warm up, and the gauge will not register much of a temp.

As far as i know these heaters are simular to the eberspacher heater, they run on diesel and work independently from the normal heater. You can even set them to come on early so as to warm the van up before you get in it in the mornings.

How they work i do not know tho.

Cheers for the replys guys. The thing seems to be running fine and i can feel the gases coming out of the exhaust. i wonder if the stat not working would affect the temp. Also the temp gauge doesn't register anything. I'll have a bit of time on sun to look at it all so any suggestions as what and where to look would be much appreciated. I know a bit about cars but i've never worked on a transit before so it'll be a whole new learning curve :)

are you pressing the button and then starting straight up? If so it will do sod all. Switch it on about 15min before starting the engine, it will preheat the coolant to about 80 degrees...

The other thing is to check its still plumbed in - ie its got the water pipes connected

Cheers for the replys. I'm pretty sure itsstill plumbed in asall the pipes still run into the engine bay. I left it running for about 35 mins and it was still blowing cold air. It seems to be running ok itsjust not getting warm
