Bad Backs 'n tranny customs!

....this is bit off forum I know!

I have just tweaked my back on my Kawasaki KDX and find that my smiley tranny custom is the only thing I can drive without being in pain...am I due to spend all my leisure time smoking around in my tranny now?

You need to know that I have my own car sales and we sell Jeeps, Merc's, Jag's BMW's, Volvo's and SAAB's, but the only other vehicle that comes close to the comfort of that Tranny is a '79 Merc 200 we have at the moment......!

Wierd, I know, but anyone else find the same or am I just strange.....this bad back business is new to me!

rich i have a bad back all the time but that cos i have spent far to many hours in my life humping transit engines in and out!

Strangely enough you are not the only one to find this. I have occasional problems with sciatica and it can be bloody painful. Had my last attack just before setting off on a ski trip to Austria and thought how am I going to cope. Sitting in the transit (we have a minibus) seemed to help a lot. By the time we got to the ski resort I was able to walk in the Gasthof with little pain. Oh, and to those who thought 'what a twit, going skiing with a bad back', my sciatica reacts very well to exercise. Its when I have not been exercising that I tend to suffer!

I suffered a bad back for two years, went to docs ands nothing got sorted. went to the chiropractors for 12 months and nothing still. went to the specialist at hospital....and nothing. then one day noticed that i was a bit slumped in the van seat, so (not having the air pump seat or any kind of lumber support!) i cut the back of the seat and packed the lumber out with padding. 2 weeks later hey presto! no bad back! Ive been fine ever since

I've had a slipped disk over the last couple of weeks and it was pressing on the Sciatic nerves..very painfull, and the only thing I can drive is my Transit, even my Volvo 940 is a no-go!

Drive the Transit...get you back better....get back on the bike and make it worse again...then return to the Transit for a while etc etc etc..

I do have the seats with the lumbar support which must help somewhat....but it is also the action getting 'up' into the transit which is easier than the having to get down into the cars, I now understand why we have customers puchase 4x4's only because they have a bad back, not for off-roading!

Just been to the osteopath again and he tells me the transit will indeed be better for a poor back as my knees are below my hips which is good for posture...being as though I will be spending more time in the transit this is just the excuse I need to upgrade the sounds and spend a little money on the paintwork!

Yup, I have set the seat so that the front is low and the rear high, thus avoiding the normal knees higher than the backside position.

Probably teaching you to suck eggs, but you should get into the van rear first and swing your legs around, similarly when exitting, swing your legs out first and slide out if possible. This will alleviate the need to bend forward when getting in or out.

another victim of dirt bike inflicted back problems, sorry to hear that. i too suffer with a bad back after an off last year. the transit is most definatley the best for a poor back due to seating position etc. i have been trying a gadgt from lloyds chemist, its a portable TENS unit sold under solpadeine banner, it works on firing electrical impulses to damaged nerve endings. so far it seems to work well

Hi comben,my EX wife had cronic back pain,had discs removed etc...and she had a proper TENS machine and swore by it.Had it on every day.Only drawback was,as soon as you switch the machine off,the pain returns.

Strange thing going on here.I got a bad back from lifting beer kegs for 3 years and changing truck tyres killed me off a bit.driving a transit is loverly as u sit up high and not slumped down on the floor..1 of my other car's is a renault espace v6.i sit up nice and high in that as well.
transit is just more fun

starta florida, welsh 2 day enduro 2005, day 1, catching a lad up who was far quicker than me in 2004 thought about going by but it was so dusty i decided to roll off. next thing i know i am sailing through the air wondering where me bikes is (its behind you ) landed on my tail bone bike fortunatley didnt collect me as well tens machine seems to be working well and am slowly getting fit again. transit is by far the best vehicle i have access to for back pain, my orion is pretty poor, the frontera is a bit better but the tranny def gets my vote if you are suffering

lol sounds like most of us transit drivers are disabled lol because i also suffer with 3 slipped disks too
