'98 2.0 DOHC

Im going to look at a Tourneo fitted with the 2.0 petrol (i assume its the DOHC) tomorrow morning. Its done about 150k, and i wondered if this is a lot of miles for the engine and if there was anything in particular to look for?

My total miles per year is'nt much so im not bothered by fuel consumpsion.

matt ,150 k is abit strong for one of those engines you need to check and see for smoke also rattley engine , dont forget to have a good drive round and make shure it behaves as it should!

Is it a good idea to take a car/van on a short motorway run before you buy one?

Im going to make sure i have a good drive before handing over any cash. the only thing i have to compare it to is my 2.0 OHC sierra engine (90k)- i assume if the DOHC sounds the same or better it sould be OK.

The DOHC should be very quiet, if it has rattles it will almost certainly be the timing chain tensioner that is going tits up, and its not a pleasant job to do IMO, some folks dont mind doing it though..

Went and looked at the Van- seemed to drive OK and the price was right... so i've got my first transit! had her up to 90 on the way back, and so far, so good. My kids think its the best thing ever too!

I'll have a mechanic mate of mine look it over to see if there are any impending problems when he services it.

ah, well my girls are between 8 and 18 months so anything big they can crawl round in is tops (and compared to my scabby sierra, it is cool).

nearly choked when i filled it up from the first time (fuel light had just come on) and it cost £52! still, i've been driving every where with a big grin on my face.

Dont suppose anyone knows the correct tyre pressures? its got standard Tourneo alloys and new looking 205/70 R14 tyres.

Nice one Matt, sounds like you have a great van there mate, 2.0l dohc aswell

I used to have 50psi in my tyres when i had the original alloys.

Sounds nice, the picture galley should be your next port of call.

And I also run 14s at 50psi, come to think of it I run my 15s at 50psi too
