replaced fuel pump -thick white smog -can get higher rpms

Postby koondaholaa » Sat Feb 06, 2010 8:21 pm

hello
i have replaced the fuel pump recently with timming belt and had some issues starting it
i then towed it for about one minut with injectors cracked open then closed them and the van started
lots of very thick smoke and after while i got it to rev high but as the time went on its not possible to get her
to rev high . It starts and run in idle no prob .
i tried further bleeding of the injectors they are having a lots of pressure but no high idle and more and more smoke
kind of white and thick
i blacked out the egr valve and took of airfilter but runs exactly the same

can you please advice me on the cause and how one advance the timing on the fuel pump??
i read a post saying white smoke is sign of retardan timing ??
many thanks kamil

Your crankshaft is one full turn wrong-your motor is running on wet fuel on the piston tops
Fit timing pin to pump and cam -Remove timing belt- turn crank one full turn-( of course remove crank timing pin first !!)
You cannot turn the pump half turn (no holes) Likewise Cam-
Other words it is possible to accidentally turn the crank and have the pump injecting no4
instead of no1

Further to above--turn crank VERY SLOWLY AND CAREFULLY IN CASE CAM IS IN AN INTERFERING POSITION- IF YOU DINK A VALVE YOU REALLY HAVE PROBLEMS

Sorry-- Very late in OZ--IGNORE ABOVE AND INVESTIGATE POSSIBILITY PUMP IS INSTALLED ONE OR TWO OR THREE HOLES WRONG--prev comments commonly found in land cruiser and similar belt drive systems-- timing marks pump and crank are correct but 180 wrong with cam.
As ford ccam to crank timing on ford is fixed by pins your timing pulley must be wrong-

Carefull
