lifter pump

my 1993 banana engine 2.5 DI non turbo still has the same symptoms even after replacing the fuel pump,timing belt ,changing the fuel filter etc

basically: it runs fine doesnt smoke at all up to the third gear or aprox 80 km rides with progresive power then when aproaching hill
suddenly starts to loose power and sometimes jerks like air is coming in . this only happens up hill .on even or downsloap rides fine

i think its the lifter pump now ----someone has any experience with replacing one and what to look for
or any other suggestion (there cant be much left to be broken in the fuel circuit )
thanks i am so bummed out to spent two weeks under the car just to have the same problem

try the O rings on the 4 pipes at the filterhead.

anyone has any experience with the lifter pump on ford transit 2.5 non diesel 1993 its the mechanical one
i need to know if i need to drain oil before removing it seems low enough for oil to come out
and what are the ususal symptoms when the pump is broke or sucking air into the fuel lines ??

you don`t need to drain the oil easy swap too only 2 13mm nuts that hold it on then squeeze end of pipes with fingers and pull off

hello i am about to replace the fuel lines from the lifter pump to fuel filter and from fuel filter to injector pump
can anybody tell me if you can buy just the tubing or do you have to buy the whole lot
i also dont understand how are the fuel lines attached inside the fuel filter housing .
i tool the fuel filter off and unbolted the housing but didnt see a way to loosen them

the lines into the housing have i think its 13mm nuts on them , undo them and pipe is held in by a rubber washer about 5mm thick , with some moving and twisting then come out

if the washers are perished you can hook them off the retaining insert with a terminal screw driver and slip new ones on with a little oil to lube them

hey i replaced the front two fuel lines the fuel injection pump feed and return .

they got destroyed in the process as the end was really stuck in the filter and when i managed to pulled it out the brass nipple was a bit chewed up. i also replaced the fuel (lifter)pump on the side of the block.
unfortunately the symptoms remain the same . van drives fine accelerate fine till you get to a hill and then it start to loose power in a waves of what seems like not getting enough fuel . it really eratic and the engines changes sons like the valves are knocking (little bit)
there is only few thinks left to replace -the fuel filter housing the fuel lines from tank to lift pump and the return leak of line back to tank . i read here that when your pressure is droping in the feed line to the injector pump the fuel governor acts eraticaly by compensating for the drop of pressure . it feels like my problem but i am a bit at the end of my wits

any thoughts related to this problem would be greatly apreciated kamil

Hi, try reading thread about injector leakback lines, I suffered problems with air locks which were sorted by re-routing my leak back pipes.

get about 1/2 a metre of leak off pipe , take the plug off the front injector and put it where the pipe goes to the return on the back injector , remove the pipe to the return pipe "tee" and replace with new pipe then run it up to the front injector , trim to length and push on to the nipple ( ha ha said nipple ha ) job done

will do it and see what goes right now the engine runs fine in idle but if i rev it for 10 seconds
high RPMS you start to feel like its missing and sometime you can hear this slight chnge in the engine sound like the hum goes slightly up and down while the accelerator is at the same
posittion because i fix it there with a spanner
its the same what it did with the old fuel injector pump and lift pump
so i dont know now ---the fuel filter husing is expensive here in france so are the fuel lines
paid 200 euro for lift pump and the two front fuel line of teh fuel filter
