ECU help.

Postby StuartB58 » Mon Feb 15, 2010 6:33 pm

Hi I'm new to Transits and was hoping someone could explain a few things for me. I've read on this site about mapping etc so now I need to know what this means. Are we talking about the ECU? The problem I have is the Mk 5 I've just purchased is governed so I'd like to get a little more out of it. There's a forum member breaking an identical van and I was wondering if theres something I can easily swap from his van to mine to give it a bit more top speed.
Thanks for any help I receive,
Stu.

When you say goverened do you mean it won't go above 3500 revs or is it just speed restricted :?:

AndyG is the man to ask as he is the EPIC specialist at a guess if it is actually goverened you would most likely be able to swap the ECU's around and bob's your uncle but that is a guess

What is your top speed at the moment? You can use the gearing calculator and the diff ratio to work out what it should be at about 4000rpm. See Useful info on the board index :)
1990 LWB Mk3 twin wheel 190 minibus (My favourite but stolen)
1998 LDV Convoy Ford DI engine but... yuk, yuk, yuk (bought in desperation, sold 2 months later)
1997 SWB Mk5 minibus (Great but small)
2001 LWB Mk5 TD 100ps Minibus (hmm..)
Get me to that gig!

Hi many thanks for all the replies guys. :D
Top speed is around 50mph.
Details from the Ford site :-
Build Date: 04.05.1999
Vehicle Line: Transit 95
Cab Style: Regular Cargo Van
Series: 150S
Engine: Diesel 2.5T (85PS)
Transmission: A4LD (M)
Drive: RHD RWD
Axle Ratio: 4.63
108000 miles.
I wanted an automatic as I'm slightly disabled and have problems with my left leg and back also my wife only has an auto licence
So looks like I'll try the ECU first see if that helps, can anyone tell me where I'll find it and is there only 1?

That should be good for 90ish

when you turn the ignition key, but before starting is there a red light with a picture of an engine? Does it go out immediately/after 5 secs or not at all?
