minibus double seat question

Postby djc151084 » Wed Feb 17, 2010 12:26 pm

I got 2 minibus seats yesterday 1 single with integral belt and 1 double seat with what i thought had 2 integral belts, The seats are taken from an r reg lwb minibus, the single seat is fine but i got a question about the double seat, underneath the seat looks fine it has the 2 seat belts rolld up on theyer roll thingy, and then you look at the top and there is that grey plastiky thing in the middle with 1 belt attached but there is not 1 on the side and the belt is just hanging, i know my description is crap lol , so if no body knows what i mean i will take pictures later when the rain stops,

I wanted to change the double seat i have in the back of my van for this double seat as the one in the back of my van is a front passinger transit seat therfore only has 1 belt, the single seat i dont need so if some one wants it make me an offer unless i can use it for parts to fix this double seat ?

thanks
daniel

My double seat has 2 of the grey thingys on the top, (and the triple has 3) so yours has been broken or taken off at some point.
The only part which is seperate from the seat is the receptor stalk for the left hand seat, which bolts seperately onto the seat fixing bolt

Any help?

I thought mine mite have broken off but i was looking at the double seat and there are no signs that it was ever there to start? so then i was thinking that maybe is there any way to take the 1 from the single seat and bolt it onto the double seat ?? , i got the seperate receptor stalk and 3 grey things that look like theyer made of the same thing as that grey thing in the middle but i havnt a clue what they are i will go and take some pics now.

This is the bottom where i think the seat mite be sat over a wheel arch in the minibus it came from ?? maybee,
http://i49.tinypic.com/xkojg9.jpg

Pic of the back of the seat what are the metal rods for going across side to side
http://i49.tinypic.com/308h0f9.jpg

Seats from the back
http://i49.tinypic.com/2zea2vk.jpg

This is where the belt is bolted in the middle underneath
http://i48.tinypic.com/2r7n3sx.jpg

Loose parts i had with them i know what the receptor stalk is but havnt a clue what the other 3 things are , they are all the same,
http://i45.tinypic.com/9qwpck.jpg

This was also tied to the bottom of the seat think it is just a spare belt
http://i47.tinypic.com/30dhz6t.jpg

And Finally this is the single seat,
http://i47.tinypic.com/2a7c5xf.jpg

So my question is is there any way i can use the double seat in my van with the 2 seatbelts,

thanks
daniel

EDIT : I had to remove the [img] tags as the pictures were showing up too big

Altransit , are all the rear seats in the back of your van like that with the 2 grey things or have you got one like the 1 in my pictures, also what is the purpose of those small plastik things bolted to the side of your van shown in your second pic,

thanks
daniel

I only have one single, one double, and one triple seat left in mine, nut they are all the same design
The grey thing bolted to the side seems to be an extra brace to the seat belt, presumably to help in the case of an impact pushing the back of the seat forward :?

The belts attach to the floor fixing points and 2/3's of the way up the pillar between the windows (Which will be panels on a standard van)
Sorry I can't post pics I don't have the photobucket password yet

The plastic thing you refer to in the second photo down is the extra restraint for the seat it just serves to strenghten the seat position, the double seat you have is the mid floor drivers side or else the rear most passenger side both of these seats only have one seatbelt as the inside seatbelt is bolted to the vehicle body. Just in case you did,nt know any of these seats are illegal even if they are made by ford as they are not fitted by a recognised seat fitter and supplied with the relevant certificate to satisfy the insurance company. I know its a money racket but thats the law, you can chose not to inform the insurance company of your extra seats but if you have an accident and people are injured while in these seats you won,t have a leg to stand on. Most seat fitters won,t fit anything but their own seats and you know the price of them

Also i forgot to mention some younger drivers are not insured to drive a van with over 5 seats in the eyes of the insurance companies as we have found out with one of our vans with 7 seats

I have already informd the insurance company that i have had extra seats fitted to the van and they did not ask any questions about who fitted them or did the premium change ;)

In N.Ireland here most insurance companies require certificates to show proper installation of crash tested seats, Your company may not have asked any questions nor required any certificates, I doubt the requirements are any different in england, scotland and wales, but did you ask them where you stand in the case of an accident with these seats fitted eg people in them may not be covered leaving you to compensate them

No i did not question that but the seats are very rarely used as the van is a works van and i got a car for the family they are just emergancy seats really so i will just be happy that they did not question who fitted them ect.
