Beacon Light Switch

I've just got hold of a beacon light switch to fit into my dash for my strobes. Only problem is I can't find the Haynes again so need a hint on the wire combinations

Black
Black/Orange
Orange
Orange/Yellow

What do each of them do?

So to botch it into my van.....

Black to battery negative?
Black/Orange to beacon positive?
Orange to battery positive?
Orange/Yellow to battery positive?

And then on my strobes I go positive from switch and negative straight to battery negative?

Obviously a fuse in there somewhere.....

Is that right or wrong

Don't wish to complicate matters, but you may find it worthwhile in the long run using a relay.

Take the black/orange from the switch to the + side of the coil (85). Take an earth from the chassis to the - side of the coil (86). Connect a fused supply from the battery to terminal 30 and take your feed from the beacon/strobes to terminal 87.

Automotive relays normally have four terminals. At least, the type you need for this application does. You want a 30A SPNO (Single Pole, Normally Open) relay.

85 and 86 are the coil. Positive and negative connections. The switch, inline with the positive feed, energises the coil when switched on and throws the contacts between 30 and 87 to make the circuit.

30 and 87 are the load. A permanent but fused supply from the power source (battery) and the load to the equipment being powered.
