Can I fit a rev counter?

Ok let me re-phrase that question, I guess most things can be done with time money and patience but how easy would it be to fit a rev counter to my Transit as it doesn't have one at the moment?

Its a 2000 mk5 2.5 TDi with just the speedo in the centre.

I've just ordered a Mondeo dash (from x reg mk2) to fit in my 2000 Mk5 turbo diesel. I'm hoping it will just plug in and work. Should arrive early this week, I'll let you know how I get on.

It seems like it's a bit hit and miss as to whether all the gauges work, so fingers crossed. I know the dash comes out with out removing wheel or light stalks so not too much trouble to find out. The most important thing appears to be the alternator ie 3 wires one of which sends the signal to rev counter.

Trip reset right side of speedo (under 150 mph) = electronic speedo. Yours is almost certainly this one.
left of speedo = cable driven

Keep your eye on ebay for dash. Lots of Mondeos being broken - not always listed as separate parts.

I used to drive a T reg turbo for the company I used to work for and that didn't have a rev counter either

My rev counter doesn't work. The one I've tryed to put in was only made a month or two after the date on my original speedo (Feb 22nd 2000 & May 22nd 2000) so thought it might work.

Rev counter does move a bit, but flicks straight to 6000rpm when ignition on. Took the needle off and reset to different position, but it will only read 1000rpm above idle, then nothing I've hard wired the counter to test it out of the cluster but same result. Code on the counter is 97bp. Must be calibrated on a different scale or something?

Sticker on the side of the rev counter reads: NEW CAL 2, 97bp 7360CB, 22/5/2000, GOOD

I've read everything I can find on this site (including the 14 page thread!). Did someone work out you need a pre '98 electric speedo for it to work right or am I just making that up

Might work for someone else so will probably stick it on ebay.

dibs sounds like your rev counter clock is knackered..you got a 3 wire alternator havent you??
