Full winter tyres in the summer

My tyres are due for a change (31,000m!)

But next winter I'll be spending a lot of time in the Alps - and thus want full snow tyres.

Only likely going to do 4-5000 miles before then, so don't want to replace with summer tyres then bin them to get winter.

Are full winter S+M tyres okay in dry/summer as well?

My guess is that they'll wear down very quickly and they'll be very noisy on the road...

on my road car it wears M+S tyres all the timeyes you get road noise but they last about the same time.

I would however say get some real cheap tyres on until you want to got hen the m+s tyres will be fresh fro going and give you maximum grip, you may also consider chains

Hi.
I have (and use!) chains on last time we took the van away.
Main issue is its jsut about on 2,8T limit (campervan) and FWD - so as soon as ice comes the front end grip is shite.
Road noise isn't a huge concern - we don't drive it that quick, and as it has a high top glued on with skylights etc it isn't the quietest thing.
Even cheap tyres is quite a cost - so if the S+M don't wear quicker then thats a good 'un

Could you not just pick up another set of steel wheels and have the snow tyres fitted to them? Just use budget commercial tyres on the van in the mean time and swap them over when you need to? Saves binning a decent set of tyres.

my local part worn tyre place does tyres for my van @ £15 a corner , normally good for a year or three as i do low mileage

or keep a eye out on ebay like me i just got a set of 4 wheels and tyres with average of 7mm

or you could be a lucky bugger like me, I got a set of full winter tyres in the middle of the snow this year for my escort for £18. 7mm left on the fronts and 5 on the rears!
