prop centre bearing

I am going to order a new propsahft centre bearing from ebay i think, instead of ringing around for a second hand one, but is it easy to change ? the 1 on it is very worn and i think will come off easy but are they easy to put on the prop, also there are a few sizes on ebay can some1 please show me the correct one to buy on ebay plz, thanks,

you have to take the prop off and split it using a 17mm spanner, dont fully undo the bolt, just enough to get the horseshoe spacer out, then the 2 halves slide apart. Its a good idea to mark up the exact orientation with tipex or similar because some props dont have a master spline

i decided against chainging the bearing and i am now changing the whole prop with bearing attached there is one in a local scrapys for £30 , im getting it tommorow, is there any basic instructions for doing this job i did do a search but cant find any instructions,

undo the 4 torx bolts at gearbox end (I think they are T50) and undo the 2 bolts that hold the center bearing carrier on, then the 4 at the axle end.

I say that way round because if you undo the axle end before the center bearing end then the sliding joint can come apart and because its greasy get covered in ***t

just done my bearing to day
got it up on car ramps undid prop split it apart on floor used small disc cutterto get off remains of bearing tapped on new bearing ( used part of old aloy thermostat housing to go over bearing perfect fit) re built prop and bolted it back on
easy when u know how

Hi,

A friend of mine has a broken center bearing as well. You can move that shaft 2cm.
From what I read, i's easy to change them, but I've never done them on a Transit, so just some quick questions.

Can you take the shaft off by undoing the bolts on the flanges, of do you take apart the U joints?
Do you have to take the complete drive shaft off, of can you take the shaft apart when just undoing the center support?

It seems like there is a 30mm and 45mm version. Can I measure with calipers right in front of the bearing to be sure, or does it widen? It's a '94 and I think a long wheelbase (2 rows seats + a little over 2m cabin).

iv neverdone a prop before untill sat
i helped my mate do it got my bearing from e,,y for £16 its 60 from fords
use car ramps to get rear of van in the air undo prop from front / rear it looks like u need torx drive but u can use sockets (didnt knowtill i removed2 of them ) undo centerbearng completly ,, be caerfull cause its heavy the prop will drop
there is a bolt in the uj( ull se what i mean) udo bolt not all the way remove split washer the prop should then split
cut off old rubber andremove bearing ,,,,, it says use puller ok if u got one we tried to split it with chissel .no good so used diskcutter be caefull it goes with a bang
when reasemble tap on bearing and line up prop (it only goes on one way clean splines first) tighten bolt on uj and re fit prop
remember before u remove prop mark it with tipex or same so it goes back on same way

I've done them before, just not on a Transit.

I had a quick look yesterday night, and it's a 3 piece prop. I guess I can just leave 1 flange attached and slide the other 2 parts off.

Also, the bearings looked quite large, so I'm guessing it's 45mm. How can I be 100% sure?

i will say though these cheap ones dont last long, mine lasted about 14 months, but i still bought another two cheap ones again lol
