cam belt kit quality of manufacture

Hi, am looking at biting the bullet on the weekend and changing the cam belt along with the water pump as suggested on this site.
Ford want around £80 for the belt kit and about the same for the pump, where my local motor factor want about £85 for the pair.

So the burning question is, is the quality of the kit supplied by the local motor factors up to the job, the kit is made by "goodyear" and includes the new style auto tensioner and the water pump i'm sure is a "qh" item.

Totally agree, I use both makes on a regular basis and never had any cause for concern

Sorry for hi-jacking your thread, but I've been looking on fleabay at timing belt kits, theres a full kit for £35 but it's new old stock! It's a gates belt kit but do you think it being left on the shelf for a while could have caused it any problems or should I just get one I know should be ok. Theres a Motorquip kit for £6 more but are they any good?

Thankyou for the replies. I thought that the stuff sold by the local factor would be good and they have never let me down before, they also assured me that they had never had any complaints or returns but you know how it is..... starts when you begin asking yourself the "what if " question and then the doubts creep out of the corners of your mind !

oK, have bought the bits ready for the spannering over the weekend. I was half right, the cam belt kit is indeed goodyear and looks good, the waterpump is made by FAI which to the untrained eye looks reasonabe quality to. Am hoping that that nobody comes back with the news that the pump is made of chocolate and not worth fitting !

My old supplier always had FAI in stock, not had any issues or comebacks, although they 'feel' a little less sturdy than the QH ones they seem to do the job ok.

In my experience pattern parts tend to be at least the same quality if not better. Thinking about it they have more to loose if there is a quality issue. - Ford will simply deny any liability, and have the lawyers to back them up.
