Spare wheel problem

i am having the rear crossmember welded tommorow on my van but i got a problem as i cant get the spare wheel from underneath it is in the way , i havnt got the tool for releasing this wheel so is there any other way of getting it down , i dont mind breaking the thing that holds it up as it will not be going back underneath.

I had to grind it off the van I was breaking! Rusted solid

1/2 drive socket might fit..if not grind a socket to fit the hole on the winch mechanisim

cut it off with the grinder after, was the easyest option as im never going to use the spare wheel underneath the van il keep it in the van.

or perhaps you guys might like to go the rout I intend on going - swing mount for the spare wheel! I'm currently trying to source a cheap landrover one that I can experiment with. Will no doubt post results once it's done.

The 1/2 inch socket wont do it already tried that myself .so grind it off is your only way mate unless as has been stated a piece of square section of the correct size but once its off a spare takes up a lot of room in the back , ALOT MORE THAN YOU WOULD AT FIRST THINK ,and is always in the way

Iv bolted it to the half bulkhead i got so its out of the way
