Just read the thread on towing with the 190 can you advise me , i need to pick up a chasssis cab 3500 250 miles away can i tow on a A frame ( strapping around the front wish bones ) useing a transit flairline rated 2700, the vehicle has no tax or mot and has no body attached is it legal to tow tyres good and lights work.if the vehicle is overweight the only way i can see to get the weight down would be to put the engine and box on the back of the truck and take 2 of the wheels of the back or does any one on the forum transport from A1 north to london, apreciate . cheers H.

in the eyes of the law(vosa) the vehicle your towing with an aframe needs to be taxed, moted, insured. the frame can only be used for brokendown vehicle , not transporting a vehicle ! if the vehicle has no tax and mot it has to have all four wheels off the ground (tralier) , i now this as i drive a two car transporter for a living and i had a few run ins with vosa , they can also take you vehicle off you

Apreciate youre imput i do have a braked A frame that i can use but it would seem a problem with VOSA with no tax or mot if i got stopped , if i used atrailer would that bring me over weight ? if i cant find some one reasonable priced to transport irll have to break it on the spot and cart it back on the truck , just a lot of work for nothing.do apreciate youre help cheers ,H.

the only way to tow the vehicle back on a trailor is with a landrover / discovery as you would be over weight towing with your transit , with vosa its not easy as they work weights out differnt to what your van will say on its vin plate , if you go on there site it does sort of explain it . hope this helps

if you have a braked a-frame you are fine the whole vehicle/a-frame combo is classed as a braked trailer and will be under your 2 tonnes limit

where do you want moving from and to ill try and sort a price out as i have a 7.5 ton tilt bed
