no oil pressure on startup

Postby cstars.van » Sat Feb 27, 2010 6:40 am

Hi All,

Just a "small" problem that someone may have suggestions to fix.

Van has been sitting for approx 10 months without starting. Battery O.K after charge
but no oil pressure building after engine starts.
Last time I did an oil and filter change no problems. Oil pressure straight away.
This time nothing.
I've emptied the oil out of the sump and refilled it back through the top thinking it might have been an air lock Still no pressure.
Has this anything to do with the van sitting so long with engine not turned over?
I ended up hauling the injectors out and putting oil down the bore to stop ceasing
next try.
I'm wondering if the oil pressure relief valve is stuck but this wouldn't cause lack of oil pressure.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Just try another switch first?

Loosen the oil filter off and see if oil comes out when you start it, this will tell you if the pump is pumping or not.

If nothing comes out, pull the filler off and back fill with oil into both oilways to prime the pump/system, refit filter loosely and see if it starts pumping oil when started.

If you get oil coming past the filter seal, then check/change the pressure switch.
