Extra Set Of Speakers

Postby matthew2riches » Tue Mar 02, 2010 9:01 pm

Just a quick one...

I've got the 2 front speakers at the moment, I want to add another set of 5x7s (which I already have) into the bulkhead for a little more volume without going mad

Where do I wire the second set into? I know not to wire them into the other set as it will either increase or decrease the resistance  :D

In the Focus the radio (ford 6000) will control both sets so I am assuming there are extra connections that I don't have? Could I cut one from a Focus or Escort and replace?

Depends how many speaker channels your existing headunit has.

If you have 4 channels, you can wire them up as rear speakers. There may be 2 spare pairs of wires in the loom but I've not yet come across a MK5 panel van with this wiring, only Tourneos.

If you have two, you can still use the existing headunit. Splice into the output wires on the loom right at the back of the headunit. Not ideal but it saves spending out on a new headunit.

It's a Ford RDS 6000 I have in the van too. It has controls for front and back and left and right so I am assuming it does have 2 sets of channels.

As it is a standard panel van, it doesn't have the required loom so I need the speaker wire loom (one of the yellow plugs) that goes into the 6000 from a Ford car :?: Which I can then join onto the front set and run another set of cables to the back :?:

Sound like a plan?

Is it the standard ISO connector on the 6000 series or the Ford specific one?

If it's a standard ISO one, Halfrauds sell them with about 200mm leads for about £3.

Otherwise, try the scrappy. Always plenty of early Focus and Mondeos about :!:

Mine has a standard 4 speaker system, so the loom from a minibus will have what you need also.
