sorry another epic to bosh conversion question

Postby oddjobsion » Sat Mar 06, 2010 10:32 pm

my turbo has to go it cost me £20 to go 25 miles on thursday and it is smoking and usless it feels like it has 10bhp.i bought another transit yesterday with a bannana type engine which runs sweet as a nut

my turbo engine leaks oil like a hospital drip so i thought id bolt on the turbo and inlet manifold and i heard in a serch my 100psi injectors would be better but what about the loom inside the cab would i be ok if i just changed the engine loom?

im handy with a spanner but dont fancy changing just the pump

so basically need a bit of a guide to what i need to keep and what to bin

thanks :D

So you want to put the turbo and injectors on your bananna engine?

Go for it :) you will need to change the sump, all the manifolds and downpipe over. Given its a turbo'd non turbo engine you set the timing with the pins and that should be spot on.

You will need to increase the fueling (screw on the back of the pump under the backplate cover) to get it to run its best, but just bolting the turbo and putting the 100PS injectors on to a 'nana engine releases more horses :)

I have put a turbo and all the gubbins on to my 76PS engine ;)

no need to touch the timing...

To stop the turbo seizing up its fed by pressurised oil, the oil is returned straight in to the sump... have a look there is a pipe from the bottom of the turbo going in to the sump.

Its not a difficult job to swap sumps with the engine in situ, I did it on my van, but you do need to move the steering rack to be able to get at the back 2 bolts.

Don't need the loom or your pedal if you are using the Bosch pump, the rev counter clocks can just be swapped over with yours but you may need to run an extra wire to the alternator

If you are turboing a banana engine the parts you need off the turbo engine are....

exhaust manifold

turbo

front pipe

sump

inlet manifold

turbo injectors

the exhaust manifold and turbo can be removed and refitted in one piece, you can do away with the EGR as this improves performance, if you are using the Bosch pump you don't need the loom, ECU, or electric pedal

If you are using the Bosch pump from the banana just connect it back to where you disconnected it, i assume you are using the same pump/engine

Use the engine loom of the non turbo engine and plug it in to the plug next to the battery and it should run.
You will not need any of the wires that go to the turbo engine as they all go to the computer and you will not be runing the computer

That's what i tried telling him, you don't need the turbo loom unless you are using the EPIC pump but he is using the Bosch so he only needs the existing loom from the banana
