seat belt rules

Postby blue red blue » Fri Mar 12, 2010 5:37 pm

does any one know the ruling on seat belts in the rear of vans, i have a 2 seater in the back of mine, i can plumb in one seat belt fine, but to do the second one would require some nuts welding in the right positions, now as my minibus burnt down on monday due to welding its not a route i wish to go down, but it does look like i can fit a lap belt on one of the seats, is this legal?? cheers

i got a m8 who got pulld up for seats in the back of his van he had 2 lap belts on a double van seat bolted down and secured properly the police told him lap belts were no good he had to have tidy belts and give him a slip and he had 14 days to get it sorted and stampd at a garage, They did not question who fitted the seats mind.

depends on the age of van if it needs lap belts or 3 point belts..and also if it has children in the seats i think now makes a diffrence .

I have a double seat in the back of mine, W reg, bolted to the floor with spreader plates, not welded. I have two lap belts, again bolted to the floor with spreader plates, not welded. It passed the MOT last week and has done like this for 3 years.

Who knows best, the police or the MOT station? I would say get the MOT place to verify the installation before you spend out without reason.
