Looks like they are designed to be wound in and form their own thread, but want to put one by the side door, so will be reaching up behind the fuel tank whilst someone else winds the bolt home, so would like to thread the nut plate beforehand.
Enduro bike fell over last week when I went through a big hole 'cos I have to hook me tiedown strap in the side door bottom runner cavity due to having a bulkhead, and it jumped off.
